I got to spend this entire past weekend at Artscape and man did it smell good! Lucky for me I was stationed right next to Jussara from Spa Therapy Works and her amazing line of artisanal soaps!

Just read this description of her newest deodorant...

The new work is inspired by vintage patterns and designs seen in old wallpaper and tile... most likely a result of renovating our 1880's mill house! Stop by The Metro Gallery this Thursday and check out one very big new painting, (25.5 x 11.6 feet) by artist Alison Spain. I had a chance to photograph Alison in action and am excited to see the evolution of this gigantic work!

So, I went to the ACC last week and saw all the wonderful crafts a girl could ever wish to see. What I didn't expect was to see something like this! Imagine how thrilled I was when I came upon this unexpected installation by San Franciscan artist Lacey Jane Roberts. My friends and I were blow away by the magnitude and creativity of this knitted masterpiece entitled "We Couldn't Get In. We Couldn't Get Out." More and better images of Lacey Jane's work can be seen on her website. Be sure to check out her knitted graffiti tags while you're there!

...seriously folks! Lately, I've been lucky enough to connect with a bunch of area crafters and artists. One of the many talented people I've run into, is Shannon Kline of Sweet Petita Clothing. Her line of baby wear is great, not only because they are one of a kind originals, but because she uses only organic & recycled fabrics! Her designs are fashioned out of organic rib knit cotton combined with recycled fabrics, resulting in hip funky baby gear! As an artist, I took the buy handmade pledge this year with a happy and hopeful heart. I love the idea of supporting other artists in their ventures and am always appreciative of people purchasing my goodies. After it was installed I spent several weeks painting the glass. It was a really fun project and the Null's were fantastic to work with. Here is a close up that shows a detail of the glass after the paint was applied...

After I finished with the exacto, the guys went ahead and sandblasted the glass. They then installed the glass at the office.

Process!

The first step after drawing out the concept was meeting with Gettysburg Glass Company. Initially, they were like "you want to do what?!" After scratching our heads, we figured out the best way to go about executing the design.

First, I attached some contact paper to the glass. Next, with an exacto blade, I cut out the design that I wanted to be sandblasted. This took about a week...the guys at the glass shop were great and helped me move the glass into place so that I could work on them in the order that they would be installed.

I also got to create a really cool piece for the Null's. They have an amazing dental practice up in Gettysburg PA and wanted something special done to spice up their waiting room. You can imagine how excited I was when I found out that they wanted an 9x18 foot etched/painted glassed wall!!! After a few design consultations with them and their interior designer Ann Saum, I got to work. This is the design I showed them.
